Security systems

Even though some security salesmen will try to sell you more than you might need, there are a few items that all security systems should include. Any extras might be good to have, but you need to ensure that you have at least these basic devices.

• Motion detector – A motion detector is the most efficient device included with security systems because it is able to cover such a wide area. For example, if you install a motion detector near the front room of your home, chances are that it can be positioned in a way that it will cover your front door, front windows, hallway, stairs and other doors or windows that might be in the area. Financially speaking, these devices are efficient because each device can cover a fairly large area.

• Door and window sensors – Another of the essential devices that should be included in security systems are the door and window sensors. These sensors are effective at sealing off the openings at any doors or windows in your home. Because they are usually smaller than the size of a computer mouse, they do not stick out and are fairly inconspicuous. Not every door or window in your home needs a sensor on it, but if there is not a motion detector covering your door or window area, you might want to consider these devices on the uncovered doors and windows on the ground floor.

• Main frame – Some do-it-yourself stores will sell individual sensors or detectors that you can use in your home. The problem with these is that they are not really part of security systems, but rather are simply individual units. In order to truly make sure that you are able to control all the devices of your security systems from a central point, you might want to get a main frame on the wall in the kitchen or living area. This will allow you to not need to worry about manually turning on or off each individual unit.
